Racism is a public health crisis that demands bold action on many fronts, including in academic public health. ASPPH and our Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accredited schools and programs of public health are dedicated to dismantling structural racism and ending the cultural, structural, and systemic conditions that enable racism in academic public health institutions. TAE enables schools to transform academic spaces to be equitable and inclusive for the benefit of faculty, staff, and students.
ASPPH is dedicated to identifying and creating educational pathways to attract, recruit, train, and retain a diverse public health workforce.
ASPPH has numerous resources, trainings, and tools for members to create mission-aligned admissions and advocatie for inclusive recruitment practices. In response to the June 2023 SCOTUS decision reversing affirmative action in university applications and admissions, ASPPH has pivoted our approaches to recruitment and admissions.
ASPPH’s Community and Belonging (CAB) group consists of ASPPH staff who volunteer to provide opinions, consensus building, and bring awareness to matters related to diversity, equity, social justice, and inclusive excellence. CAB hosts educational trainings, provides support, and community building activities that perpetuate an optimal organizational culture and climate in alignment with our DEIJ values.

At ASPPH, we champion social justice, equity, and health for all. We strive to create an equitable and inclusive community that respects everyone, values differences, and stands up against acts of harassment and discrimination in all forms.
As part of our ongoing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Social Justice (DEIJ) initiatives, ASPPH worked with the Federation of Associations of Schools of the Health Professions (FASHP) to declare the low number of historically underrepresented men of color (HUMOC) graduating and entering the healthcare professions a national crisis.
