Hi all, this is Lexi welcome back to another day of my #AmbassadorTakeover. Today we are looking at antimicrobial resistance and its serious health implications.

Did you know that 1/4 antibiotic prescriptions are unnecessary and antibiotic resistance adds $20 billion in excess healthcare costs in the United States each year?

Antimicrobial resistance is a serious threat to public health and spreading awareness is critical. Without effective antibiotics and antimicrobials simple infections will become deadly. Do your part and spread awareness, never share antibiotics, and always complete your full course of treatment.

My name is Lexi Anderson, and I am a second-year Master of Public Health student focusing on Health Policy and Management at Temple University. During my takeover, I will be discussing two topics: antimicrobial resistance awareness and family caregiving. @templeuniv @temple_cph

This week is World AMR (Antimicrobial Resistance) Awareness Week. With a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the Rochester Institute of Technology, microbiology will always be near and dear to my heart, and I am excited to raise awareness about such an important issue in both biology and public health. Welcome back! Our second post will focus more on mental health in America and and how it relates to public health.

The second slide shows the state-level differences in rates of children and adolescents who do not receive any mental health treatment or care. Washington DC (29.5%) had the lowest rate of children not receiving treatment, and North Carolina had the highest (72.2%). The next slide shows information from a survey where only 37% of Americans who had struggled with mental health sought professional care.

We share 3 strategies to address mental health that can help prevent it worsening and can promote mental well-being and professional treatment. Talking about it will help destigmatize it.

Hello everyone! Welcome to this weekend’s #AmbassadorTakeover! We’ll be focusing on mental health and its relation to public health where we'll share some recent statistics, self care tips, and much more! First, we’ll introduce ourselves.

#AmbassadorMaritza is a PhD student at Oregon State University College of Health @oregonstate, and her research interests include interval breast cancer among Latinas, health disparities, cancer epidemiology, and environmental health.

#AmbassadorDarby is a Master student at West Virginia University @westvirginiau, and her research interests are rural health, mental health, substance use disorders, and chronic illnesses.

#AmbassadorValeria is a PhD student at UTHealth School of Public Health @uthealthsph_elpaso @uthealthsph, and her research interests include, water quality and accessibility in border communities, water risk management, and environmental diseases.

We’ll start with a few things mental health is and isn’t. Our last slide leaves you with a reminder to always be kind to your mind.

In today’s last #AmbassadorTakeover with Mary-Catherine & Abbie, #ThisIsPublicHealth explores the risk and protective factors that may be influenced by domestic violence. We also referenced the socio-ecological model and roots of the social determinants of health to look at domestic violence from a public health standpoint. In doing so, one can see the outer to inner core part of how domestic violence can impact the community all the way down to the individual. Please take care in looking at this crucial, yet essential information for domestic violence victims and those that may provide care.

Myth ❌ Only women are affected by Breast Cancer.
Fact ✅ 1 in every 100 Breast Cancer cases are men.

Being aware of your family history, lifestyle choices, and performing self-exams can keep you ahead of the game! Health equity is key—advocating for healthcare access, promoting prevention, and supporting policy changes can improve health for yourself and underserved communities.

Breast cancer risk factors may include lifestyle, exercise, family history, and more. It's important to recognize risks and early signs like lumps or changes in the breast, and to address disparities in diagnosis and treatment, particularly among groups who face barriers to care.

Happy Friday! We are so excited to share our next TIPH Book Club pick – The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together by Heather McGhee.

Through her work looking for answers to why the American economy has so often failed the American public, McGhee found racism in politics and policy making has a cost to everyone. She explores what is lost when we subscribe to the zero-sum paradigm, and calls attention to the transformative benefits we gain when we come together.

The Chicago Tribune said The Sum of Us “has the potential to radically shift our cultural conversation,” but we want to change that potential to actual through our discussion. Dive in with TIPH ambassadors Kelcy Wenger & Kalani Phillips, as they moderate this discussion.
