What inspired you to study public health?

While I have always wanted to help my community, I recognize that there is a real need to address preventative health care within this country and feel like the field of Public Health most aligns with my values.

What has been the single most rewarding experience of your career/studies so far?

Some of my most rewarding experiences have involved volunteering within the local Waco community. By volunteering at the VA hospital and Habitat for Humanity Re-store, I have gained a better sense of the community I seek to serve within my role as an assistant at the Waco-McLennan County Public Health District.

Advice:

I would tell someone to not limit themselves and to fully explore all that the field of Public Health has to offer. Public Health professionals work in so many different capacities and there are a wide variety of avenues within the field.

What do you think is the biggest challenge that the public health field should be focusing on?

Two of the biggest challenges that Public Health must face are reducing inequities within communities and overcoming the amount of mistrust that exists between the greater population and health professionals.
