Skill-Building Workshops

On Wednesday, March 15, before the official start of the Annual Meeting, we are offering three skill-building workshops for faculty from 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM. Advance registration is required and there is an additional fee.

Wellness, Equity, and Trauma Informed Pedagogy

This interactive professional development workshop, facilitated by the Alan Alda Center for Communicating Science, aims to provide participants with guided practice opportunities to try out new and/or improved abilities to craft and deliver clear, impactful, science-based communications.

From Data to Ta-Da! Communicating Institutional Insight with Data, Visualization, and Narrative

Merging theory and practice, participants learn how to design high-impact data visualizations. Building on this new-found skill, attendees begin writing their narrative using storyboarding and other techniques to explain data insights and engage audiences. When the essential elements of data, visuals, and narrative are combined, your data story can drive evidence-based decision-making.

Building Trust in Science through Effective Communication

This workshop, led by scholar-activist Dr. Della Mosley, is designed to provide a critical lens and the skills necessary to operationalize wellness and liberation and disrupt spaces that continue to create oppression, marginalization, and trauma for faculty, students, and staff at our institutions. Dr. Mosely utilizes her expertise and training in advancing radical healing and hope to create open and healthy spaces for all people.
