ASPPH Awarded CDC Grant

We are excited to announce that ASPPH has been awarded $3.5 million from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) under the Funding Opportunity entitled: Improving Clinical and Public Health Outcomes through National Partnerships to Prevent and Control Emerging and Re-Emerging Infectious Disease Threats. This award is supported through the CDC National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID) and was selected as part of a highly competitive process. ASPPH was selected because of our “demonstrable track record in mobilizing our members and practice partners to build capacity and infrastructure in response to threats to the public’s health.”

Funds from this award will be utilized to prepare and train the 21st century workforce to adequately respond to the racial, ethnic, and geographically diverse needs of communities to ultimately improve health for everyone, everywhere. This work is directly related to ASPPH’s Framework, Dismantling Racism and Structural Racism in Academic Public Health. Dr. Linda Alexander, chief academic officer at ASPPH, will serve as the grant’s Principal Investigator. According to Dr. Alexander, “the twin pandemics that emerged in 2020 illuminated gaps in infection control and health disparities resulting in barriers to accurate health information, vaccines for those who desired them, and access to equitable services at the community level. Training provided via this award is intended to dismantle structural barriers to optimal health outcomes impacted by lack of adequate protection from communicable diseases.”

Please look for future announcements about member opportunities and potential sub-awards in the coming months.
